What are Chelated Minerals?

Chelated minerals feature in Workshop’s Multi Vitamin Formula and can be a great way to improve the availability of minerals in your daily supplement. But what exactly are they and who can benefit from them? Here’s the lowdown.

What are chelated minerals?

Chelated minerals are minerals that have been bound to what’s known as a chelating agent. These agents are usually organic acids like citric acid or acetic acid or amino acids such as lysine or glycine.

What are the benefits of chelated minerals?

Minerals are essential nutrients that the body needs for a number of reasons, including promoting bone health, fuelling growth and regulating fluid balance.  Some minerals, however necessary, can be hard for the body to absorb. In order to negate this, chelated minerals are created to boost the absorption and availability of those minerals to the body. Although research is still ongoing, studies show that the rate of absorption of chelated minerals versus minerals is often better, which means you may need less to reach optimum healthy levels.

Who should take chelated minerals?

One of the main benefits of chelated minerals is their digestibility, so if you suffer from gastric discomfort, chelated minerals are unlikely to irritate your stomach in the way some other, non-chelated minerals may. Although no supplement should ever replace a healthy balanced diet, a good quality multi vitamin is a good insurance policy if you fall below the optimum standards of vitamins and minerals from your diet alone. Thanks to poor soil quality and increasingly busy lifestyles, many of us don’t manage the correct intake of everything we need, which is where a good multi vitamin comes in. Workshop’s Multi Vitamin Formula contains a host of anti-inflammatory antioxidants to alleviate oxidative stress as well as vitamins and minerals to improve focus, boost circulation and promote relaxation. It also contains mineral amino acid chelates for optimal absorption, bioavailability, and utilisation by the body. Best of all., it’s a convenient option if you prefer not to swallow pills; one serving mixed into water or drink of your choice is equivalent to 5 to 6 in capsule form.
